Darkstar makes the leap from Hyperdub to Warp (although it's really more of a lateral move, since they're both great labels) for their second album, NEWS FROM NOWHERE. The album opens with the dreamy "Light Body Clock Starter" before segueing into the gentle "Timeaway," which adds a touch steel pan drum. The quiet "A Day's Pay For A Day's Work" shows off their work with simplicity, as well. The sadness that infused their album is in shorter supply here, though that's not to say that this album is any less emotive. Instead, this album conjures more feelings of wistfulness, even with the marching carousel of "Amplified Ease" or the jauntiness of "You Don't Need A Weatherman." The twinkling of "Hold Me Down" takes the album out on an almost blissful note, showing how Darkstar might not be all the dark after all.
