Hmmmm shall I buy a copy of this hold onto it for 20 years and maybe make $100 profit, which is less than half a days wage................seriously.

Anyone got a cassette copy and a real ZX Spectrum? I've been trying to load from the cassette into an emulator as I have some suspicion there is ZX loadable data on it, but I don't seem to be able to progress beyond some theory and possible ZX Tape headers buried in the music.I got as far as described in the blog post linked below, but I don't think I can get any further without actual hardware.http://globalvariables.net/audio.out/2016/10/04/cheaters/

Mogelv
its possibly something meant to be used on the Sweet-Talker system for the spectrum

Braunld Great job! Just think, there are people that would actually like to play the tape on their tape deck! I guess some people are scared their tapes will evaporate into thin air. lol just kidding of course.....Tapes are not as delicate as some people make out, of course if you play it in a car or move around with a Walkman it's bound to chew up at some point. I mean who though it would be a good idea? It's like walking around with a turntable strapped to the waist and not expecting the needle to jump. Plus your belts have gotta be fresh you gotta maintain your deck otherwise your tapes will chew up and this ignorance and lack of respect to such a powerful sound carrier almost lead to its death and this ignorance continues as the cassette is fetished for its so called fragility making people think it will vanish any given moment giving an illusion of scarcity so that sellers can feed off your money.

Sick of all this trendy tape bull-s. Tapes never died and this is nothing new, stop being a bunch fags and listen to it rather than treating it like a religious artifact.

mIni-Like
got my tape and so glad I did... I wonder who is going to leave the tape they own sealed. I wonder where the other 1999 are

Vojar
I saw this go on sale while I was on holiday, I snapped it up straight away for a tape and vinyl copy. I've opened my tape and played it a couple of times. Still in good condition but wouldn't be selling it anyway. I've got my expert knob twiddlers tape still in the cellophane. Still debating whether to open or sell as it's not my favourite album going.

Bundis
Yeah, 1998 was kind of nice, so I hope that it can some day be found again.

Globus
one's on my shelf, now you gotta only find another 1998

Don't pay more than $20 for this, don't feed the scalpers.

AGAD
Respect ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Yalone
The only reason it is out of print is all these assholes on discogs, amazon and eBay bought them up just rip stupid idiots who think tapes are trendy off. Don't give them money if you do you're a grade A twatter.

Qiahmagha
No, I don't have a copy because I won't buy from a scalper

uspeh
fantastic. So you'll sell your copy to me for $20 then ?. postage included right ? drop me a paypal invoice and i'll pay right away.

Alsantrius
wait, it will be way more in a year. the price on here is up 7$USD since the last time I checked; that was 2 days ago

Does anyone know what tape format the cassette version uses? Ferro Type I, chrome type II or metal type IV? Also is it recorded with Dolby c or S noise reduction?I've tweeted Bleep about this but got no response.

Mezilabar
They weren't wrong, tape is dead.I can go into my local music retailer and buy a CD or a vinyl record, but I can't buy a cassette tape. Not a blank one, not a prerecorded one. Nor can I go into my local hifi store and buy a cassette deck. Nor can I go to a pro-audio store and buy a brand new 4-track cassette recorder with double speed and DBX NR for a higher quality recording with less hiss (Dolby NR sucked so hard, every version of it messed with the recording dynamics, Dolby was just the most known brand).ALSO, position IV tapes were single use only for master recording. NEVER were they used for retail releases of music. Yes, they were the best quality for recording to and could cope with much higher recording levels (making for excellent signal to noise ratios), but they were prohibitively expensive, costing generally 2x to 3x as much as a position II tape. Not to mention that only the most expensive consumer level cassette decks actually had the right electronics to play them back correctly.

Faehn
Magnetic tape at full volume in a car is actually the highest fi I have ever experienced...Richard was a doll to release his work this way and I would have bought one even though my current car has no deck (would have had a reason to use my Nakamichi again though)!

Gavinranadar
People said exactaly the same thing 20 years ago. I guess they were wrong.

huckman
Does it really matter, tapes died years ago, and I very much doubt you'll be playing this one in 20 years...

Najinn
After playing it I'm also guessing it may be Dolby B.

Sinredeemer
my guess is also dolby B. Seems like the most used tape as stated in this thread

Risky Strong Dromedary
Tape itself looks like Type I to my eyes. Not sure about any Dolby NR,

Wild Python
Could be a Poundland Special Blank Cassette they used. But a good question. I suggest you e-mail Warp Direct at their press team. UK Press Enquiries: press [at] warprecords dot com they might be able to tell you.

Onetarieva
I'm guessing it'll be Ferro with Dolby B, as were most commercial tapes.
