Both. 5 stars. Dark, intense, straight jungle-drum & bass stuff.

Terminator did so much for Drum & Bass (and, indeed Goldie) so it is to his immense credit that a few years down the line he supplied us with T3. He eschews the ground-breaking effects and deploys what was best about the predecessing Terminators (1 & 2) - the breaks. This time around in Goldie's world we need no association to the film title of the previous tracks - their status has been enough. Where before the breakdown contained clever vocal film samples, this time we are subjected to silence, before re-engagement of self-same breaks. The breaks are jittery and stop-start with effects from the originals dropped in and out of the mix throughout. Dark Metal is almost Goldie's response to the Techstep-swamped zeitgeist (something that he had (indirectly) broached with the 'Rider Proto 96' remix of 'Manslaughter') of the time - something that was about to be commandered by Ed Rush, et al...

Dark Metal is definatley the pick of the plate for me. Nasty NASTY NASTY bass line with perfect breaks by Rob n Goldie. Layed down perfectly into the dark sound that the "headz" were pushing at the time. THis is one of the tunes that keeps popping up on the Metalheadz video on Magna. If you don't own this plate, get it for this tune! BOH!
