I've just recently discovered this release. I am surprised that so many people doesn't get "Synkronize".It is an awesome tune.I don't know, maybe back in 2002 such poppy rnb vocals were too much for die hard "serious dnb only" heads hehe.Maybe for me it would be as well if I knew it back then, as a kid raised on techstep mixtapes recorded from radio. Who knows.This tune just reflects the garage scene I guess, to which some audience moved because they were tired of dnb getting techier and techier. Sure Uk garage and 2step went poppy at some point, and hearing such vibe on Metalheadz wasn't acceptable by orthodox fans. But fuck orthodoxy:)Also today, when we know how cheesy Sigma sounds on a radio calling this tune pop'n'bass is ridiculous though.It is something different, you may like it or not, but calling it shit is an ignorance :)

Sorry Jonny, I am huge fan of your early output, sorry Goldie Headz is one of my all time favs labels.I respect you for making this record and releasing it, but to me this is just a low low point in the headz catalogue and Jonnys history as a producer. However you have released more tracks than me (zero as of now), so who am I to really comment.

Synkronize is without doubt the worst tune on Metalheadz, the worst drum & bass tune I've ever heard and the worst vocal in history. I have no idea what Jonny L was thinking when he wrote it but even stranger is that Goldie thought it would be worth releasing it. Shame on them both.Phreak is ok I guess

NICE WEIRD DEEP AND POP VIBE TUNE.. CLASSIC! 4 A REAZON G RELEASED IT ON HEADZ.

Considered by some people as the worst release on Metalheadz. Probably because of the apparent pop appeal. I remember the rumors that were floating around when this came out. Some said the vocals were done by Brian Harvey of E17 fame, but that was more of a joke than a real fact. Fact is, this is a real gem of "Pop'n'Bass" if you consider this as one of the myriad subgenres in the DnB cosmos. If you listen to Mr. L's Truesteppers output you can see the apparent connection between this and tune like "Buggin'" Catchy vocal ("I know we could be happy - if we try... try to realize.. why do we take it slowly, you and I, we can synkronize"), nice melody, syncopated beats. In short: A hardcore junglists nightmare! Phreak on the other side is a solid tune, but, as the other review already said, just OK. Oh.. it's a take on Missy Elliots "Get Your Freak On". Well it's just the melody hidden under one of the screams from the Think break, a detuned bass and eerie synths. A filler as some would like to call it. People hated it when it came out, I loved it. In the great picture, it fitted well in 'headz output of that time!

Synkronize is a weird tune, in a sort of Jonny L-kind-of-weirdness which is no bad thing. His usual warped bass sounds over a vocal sample and a nice chimes melody, and the expected clean drums. But there's also these out-of-place samples that pop up throughout. Flies buzzing? Muffled dog barking or something? Frogs croaking? I've got no idea, but it makes for a unique track. As said, it's not a bad tune - definitely a good one, but one that might make your forehead crease in confusion a little as you listen. Oh, and Phreak's ok. Old school sample and a buzzing bass, *shrug*. Not as good (or attention-catching) as the A side.
