Funny duck
I had been told that the sound quality on this album was poor, so approached in with trepidation. Okay, so it's a little different than their studio material, but I find it a lot more atmospheric. "El Topo" is one of seven tracks from the "Sleep, Or Forever Hold Your Piece" album and sounds better live than from a studio master. "That's Romance" gives perhaps a little too much emphasis on the vocals, but then it is a vocal track. "Site Ov Pain" is one of their non-beat things with a strong Traditional Industrial sound - lots of distorted guitar forming walls of cacophonic noise as ZEWIZZ orates a seminal venom into the aural morass. "A Synthetic Woman" puts the sound back on the rails of beat. This track has a serpent-like sneaking sound, a creeping through the shadows music which bubbles away like a much muffled engine hammering. "Dominatrix" fades in on a strange rhythm which seems to breathe in the darkness. The sound is flattened out by the live situation, and it actually improves. Beneath the rhythm lies a filthy black thunder of noise, impending like dark clouds. The 'B' side opens with "Babylon", a sample from one of the other albums accompanies it into being. It's improved by the (accidental) feedback but doesn't rate as one of their best tracks. "Snakebite" follows this showing an aggressive attitude towards the audience. It's another Rock-like piece of music. This time they're joined by LAURA CHOPELAS on saxophone. The rhythm occasionally dissolves into chaotic Industrial noise before fighting free again. The record gets it wrong next - a cover version of "The Light Pours Out Of Me" which is shadowed by noise thunders along its classic way. The last track is a rather good version of their popular "Kiss The Whip" complete with samples and vocal effects. Its probably the best track on the album & a good one to finish on.The cover - of a woman bound, gagged, chained to a post topless with pierced nipples - might cause some outrage, so you may have trouble finding a copy. It's a limited edition of only 500 copies, so now's the time to get a copy.Originally reviewed for Soft Watch.
