Movin' On is the long awaited follow-up to 2004's critically acclaimed On Bond Street Kgn, JA. That album helped to establish Bitty McLean as an international reggae superstar after years of work as a junior engineer for UB40 collided into his sweeter-than-sweet lovers rock voice. Working with Duke Ellis' "Treasure Island" riddim from the original Rocksteady period of the late 1950s, On Bond Street Kgn, JA sounded like it was released nearly 50 years earlier. On his latest, McLean teams up with the legendary producers Sly & Robbie for an album that couldn't be further removed from Bond Street. This time around he raids Sly & Robbie's Taxi label for some crucial '70s riddims, like those on Gregory Isaac's "Oh What A Feeling" and Dennis Brown's "Sitting and Watching." The results are an album filled with the kinds of influences that hooked U.S. audiences on reggae way back in the '70s, with Sly & Robbie's rhythmic versatility pushing and pulling the album from sweaty funk jams to sweet R&B balladry. Covers of Otis Redding's "Try A Little Tenderness" and Stevie Wonder's "Lately" definitely highlight McLean's deep love of soul and Motown grooves and round out another solid effort from one of reggae music's hottest singers.(By Sean-Michael Yoder, LimeWire Store)
