This album finds a post y2k Tony D still maintaining depite the rise and saturation of jiggy/club rap and the budding big beat/electronica scene. He even drops a couple nice house tunes for good measure to change the pace. Most of the album is instrumental with a few skits and two vocal tracks; one being "Me and My Girl" which is a reggae hop interpretation of Sublime's "Summertime". It even samples Herbie Mann's "Doin' Time" and adds a swinging hip-hop drum track for good measure. The second track with vocals is "Bust" with the Outsidaz. A nice little thug anthem which interpolates the melody of an old Frank Sinatra tune. Overall, this is a quality instrumental album. Keeping with Tony's sampling ingenuity, check "He's the Boss". It includes a chop of Big Pun spitting his famous tongue-twisting "little Italy" verse that any true hip hop fan will recognize and adds some Italian mobster dialogue to give the track a cinematic vibe. Hard drums and seeping basslines abound, it's a nice collection of instrumental beats that kind of has a notebook-like feel to it. My copy is signed by the late Tony D.
