This CD flew completely under the radar, released on the Russian darkwave label Shadowplay. According to the Shadowplay website, this CD contains 90% new material, with the remaining tracks appearing on previous releases. Strangely, some of these tracks have different names here - 'Universal Light' is 'Ashra Rising' and 'After the Rain' is 'Searching', both on Astralasia's previous album Cluster of Waves. Not sure what that is all about. As for the new material, it is all over the place, exactly what we've come to expect from this eclectic act. 'Air' is a nice techy trance number, no vocals, just a good consistent groove and quite mixable. 'Peace' is the psychedelic rock sound we've heard on recent albums. 'Quest' is lovely deep ambient, harkening back to their mid 90's days. The final 3 tracks on the CD are also new; Between and Vertigo are just so-so downtempo, but Absolution is a nice floating journey that wraps up the album nicely. All in all, this is definitely a strange release without much of a cohesive focus, but for the serious Astralasia fan, it is a nice find. I really enjoyed Air, Quest and Absolution, so to me it was worth the cost of admission.
