Hilarious Kangaroo
At the time this was released, Dave Clarke was pretty much producing the toughest kicks around. This was no exception, pummelling audiences into submission. However, where Red 1 and 2 had hammered their way to the top of the club charts, this one did not quite reach the same summits, perhaps due to same-old, same-old effect, but also because of its much more grinding character. Sure, Thunder was designed to become another hit and did just that -- not become a hit, but another hit.The Storm, arguably the most interesting track on this, did get a lot of airplay too, but was probably too dark to enjoy the same success on a grand scale. The metallic bits in it were not a mere clanking on a copper pipe, but tearing sheets of stainless steel on a stormy background. Once the eardrums were bleeding, that massive kick showed up again to set fire to the floor. Survivors could then chant in unison: * The [Human], boil[s] with tumultuous rage,This warrior shall the dangerous storm assuage:With victories he [the strong shall] maul,And with [heavy] hand [smash] the rebel [wall].What fool so confident to say,That [they] shall live [an]other day?[With the subterranean we found (?)Come warriors, let us stand our ground.]Abstracted soul, ravished with ecstasies,Senseless, as it were in apathyBase, ignorant, and foolish multitude[Were Antiochus's fortitude (?)Yeah]The burning heat of a great flame to rise,[Shall] lick up the water, and the enterprise.Poor mortals, who wait for a happy day,Cheer up your hearts, and hear what I shall say. These words may cause wonderBut listen carefully to the distant thunderEach shall have his due. This is their lot;O he is worthy praise that shrinketh not!(*) Or at least try: catching verses from an Old English version of a Renaissance script was not exactly the easiest thing to do at an all-night rave. Especially considering the verses were freely hand-picked from Rabelais's works (Gargantua and Pantagruel), edited and patched together in a different order. Even today, a couple of verses remain elusive. This is also the only Re-load pressing in the Red series that does not come with different mixes.
