One could get jetlag listening to this... because many of the tracks are collected live performance recordings ranging from home New York City to Italy and Germany. Each track has its own particular cultural flavor, with a cozy neighborhood bar kind of feel. The CD documents some of Gen Kens early days (1980-1989) before the Generator activities started. The first six tracks form an incredible tapestry of variety, with really subtle solid experimental mixes. Then we are deposited into live-land, for twenty minutes of "subliminal clutter" (three tracks of quiet psychoelectronica, where a slow strobe light might be appropriate), and then a Rome gig where it might just be backwards accordions playing. Rounding out the disc are feisty extras from radio and flexi discs. From the start, playback is an invitation to sink further into a comfortable chair, while enjoying the nuances. The highlights are the Berlin recordings, which bring about a mood akin to the midnight chiming of a grandfather clock.
