This is probably Nick Holder's best album. A lot of good ideas to diversify the sound of funky/deep house are deployed. Jemini delivers a strong spoken word performance in the opening track; "Summer Daze", which samples a Pat Metheny track, is a pure delight; "Freedom in 63" is like a moment of history and a tribute to black activism; "Space 1999" is a psychotronic sci-fi house anthem; "Moments in Dub" is an astonishing fun driven beach track... Every single song is an enchantment and we always want more of it. The melodies are strong, the beats are flawless. A very, very good album! 5/5

Although not as good as From Within, Nick Holder’s Underground Alternatives is nonetheless a solid house album. The first track, “America Eats Its Young,” has a great anti-institutionalized-racism spoken word over some tough beats. The spoken word on “Inside Your Soul” isn’t as convincing, however, but the tune itself is worth a listen. “Summer Daze” is warm and friendly, like a pat on the back, as is “Freedom in ’63.” “Love ‘Em Leave ‘Em” has a moodiness that helps elevate it, while “Friday Nights at Movements” goes out-and-out jazz house. Get your dancing shoes on, because Nick Holder delivers again.
