"Some time ago I though it it a good idea to have Oscar Peterson record a album of some of the prettiest tunes written by our song writers. I asked Oscar to adhere to the melodic line as closely as possible without restricting his jazz feelings. He did and the album was so successful that it was logical that we record and release a second volume of Peterson Plays Pretty.

Whereas in the first album Oscar had behind him Ray Brown on bass and Irving Ashby on guitar, in this collection Oscar uses only the bass for rhythm accompaniment.

The tunes in this album are all standards of our history of popular music and your preference, if any, will probably will be governed by some special memories that are evoked upon hearing that particular strain. As for myself, I submit for your special attention "Deep Purple" and "Laura", not only for the inherent beauty in the structure of the songs themselves, but primarily for the sensitive and special way in which Oscar treats them."
