Patrick Duff: The Carrier of The Sun "The sun is in your mouth, now. You must open your mouth to light the world. You are the carrier of the sun." With a double-CD album out, his first vinyl release in 17 years, his first music video in 15 years, an up-coming autobiography, and a growing, devoted following across the UK and the rest Europe, it’s safe to say, Patrick Duff is steadily moving up the ladder towards becoming one of the greatest cult music figures of the last 20+ years. Seven Sermons to The Dead is the dark-folk songster’s latest release; a double album, and his 4th solo record, it is quite the experience. A divine medley of spoken word, and meditative music, centered around theme of Christmas, it includes a choir, an orchestra, and crystal singing bowls. Always the vivid storyteller, Duff effectively challenges his initial task of making a piece of Christmas music, by delving into many layers of a religious background, and poetic influence, as well as the depths of his own powerful imagination. There are angels, and devils; An erratic changing of the seasons, and our planet; Our connection to nature, the universe, and stars; The concept of dying and being reborn, again and again. Clocking in at almost 90 minutes, Seven Sermons is a journey to spiritual enlightenment that in no way feels pretentious, or put-on. This album is the result of an artist who perhaps understands the world, and the human condition on a deeper level than any of us could stomach to try and do ourselves. It is the result of someone who has been reborn, many times, and gained an intimate relationship with the vividness of his mind, and the strength of his spirituality. It is his poetic sacrifice, like that of Rilke, and blooms like roses, in all the right areas. Patrick Duff carries the sunlight, in the call and quest towards honest art. But we must ask ourselves, are we ready, to no longer turn our heads away from this light?"We joined the arc of light. And beautiful angels with light faces, and light wings, and light bodies waved at me,and waved at me, and waved at me… and it was me waving back at myself."
