Electronic, this may be, but the ethic is very definitely Punk - not quite thrash, but enough elements of MOTORHEAD to show a crossover there. Not only is this fast, energetic music, but they can put a song together. Okay, so the vocals aren't always gleamingly obvious, but we forgive them - the adrenaline more than makes up for the possible throwaway quality of the words. Until I reviewed this album, all I had heard from them were the more experimental side projects - and as a newcomer to their sound, you instantly see why they are so popular. Standout tracks for me are "Words Of The Dying" which has a JOY DIVISION / NEW ORDER flavour, with a tint of PSYCHEDELIC FURS / IMMACULATE FOOLS to the anthemic vocals, only a lot harder; "Crimes Of The Body", with the sort of later-period HUMAN LEAGUE vocal harmonies, with the final "Save Us" having a certain Goth Medieval pomp charm. I know CONTROLLED BLEEDING are popular in Industrial Circles, but, having heard this it's surprising they have not reached the mainstream. However, now we have crossed the Millennium divide and are now in the Twenty-First Century, this is probably too Twentieth Century (god, sound like one of those mindless Beverly Hills High types) - too Eighties.
