For his debut album under his own name, the prolific Håkan Lidbo ‎goes BEFORE THE BEGINNING, taking a mellow approach to "Open Session" as the kick drums comes in. "Sidewinder" is more abstract, incorporating a trumpet, before "Closed Session" smooths things out. "Time Strategies" has brief stabs of electric funk guitar, but these are subservient to the insistent beat. The compositions here are spare and stripped-down, as "Precykled" shows, while it's sister track, "Decykled," adds in some sweet sweeps. "Hidden Rhythms" gets some electro tweaks, and "Dyslectic" plays with the filters that "Sound Creatures" started and "Stereotypewriters" finishes up. "Pikadon" has some hints of disco, but these are quick flashes, mostly leaving behind the beat. A solid album if you like minimal tech.
