a superb genre leading experimental album, sounding fresh still today in that retro kinda way. its easy to see why r&s became so interested to work with them. well in dave and si !

Sadly artist and this debut album became the unrecognised, lesser known, and unsung gems of 90's techno scene. Both artist and album unfortunately didn't receive the awareness they so well deserved! This gem of a album released in 93' still impresses today (2018+) with its diverse unique sound in techno that still stands-out thanks to the artist inspiring forward thinking and experimental approach that positively adds to the techno genre. Music is full of interesting ideas that bring a whirlwind of sounds with its combination of dark(ish) & uplifting moods that sit somewhere between other 90's artist and their cult-classic debut albums by Psychic Warrors ov Gaia, The Drum Club, Children Of The Bong , and Deep Space Network's classic 2nd 'Big Rooms' album(esp the rhythmic tracks). The albums diverse range of rhythms and patterns add cool twists & turns that deliver uplifting sounds to dark tones, plus dark sounds to uplifting tones, while also bringing a druggy edge with touches of trippy psychedelia while also delivering atmospheres and moods submerged with a sense of suspense, mystery, and even uplifting enlightenment. A great head-dance listen for the early twilight hours of dawn, yet also an immersive unique-sounding and mind stimulating listen for any time...A album that should certainly belong in everyone's techno collection so get it while you can!

I love this album. How on earth is it so undervalued both musically and in monetary terms? Totally agree with JohnTechno's review. I had it on a dodgy tape for years and bought the first pressing on vinyl a few years ago. I don't even have a record player any more so I'm going to have to buy the CD.

An absolute classic of the genre that should have been far more of a commercial success than it was. The 120bpm ambient scene was at its most popular in the early 90s, and brought with it a wave of rather sub-standard albums. Neuro Project were up there with The Drum Club, Orbital and even the godfather of techno Aphex Twin. Best of all, this is ambient techno you can dance to. Atmospheric from beginning to end, a particular highlight is the very first track - Mihkal, a tune to which it is virtually irresistable to tap one's feet. Empathogen, track 2, takes you by surprise, starting off as a very chilled ambient piece that gradually builds in tempo and bounciness to become another great danceable number. Shawnee, track 6, is for me the highlight of the album - a short, dark, dubby tune that predates glitch by years. The vocals ("They were in this barn and they were killing cats and writing all over the walls...Well, I grew up on Black Sabbath and I never got into the devil. My question is, is that a product of a record or a product of someone's surroundings?") fit perfectly. The CD version of the album ends with IDU, which for me will be a tune that forever brings back memories of the free party scene of the era. Everytime I heard it played - from 30-people gatherings in Epping Forest to packed nights at the Whirl-y-Gig in Shoreditch Town Hall, this will not fail to fill the (forest) floor. If you like techno your record collection is not complete without this. The only worry is, myself and others I know who have copies, suspect a few copies were pressed up on dud CDs that suffer from the dreaded CD fungus - mine has weird yellowish stuff sandwiched between the plates all around the outer rim. Lucky I just happen to have a first pressing of the vinyl version too, eh? ;-)

hi john for the first time i comment from the band its mad you liked idu but thats cool it was recorded in liverpool and we were told we needed 2 new songs and this happened i was unsure on this track i dont know why but i really felt it was in the zone of everything that was going on and for me i wanted to break boundries but im glad you like maybe thats music in a way in terms of shawnee that was very much my direction i wanted cut up lyrics and splurge and i think simon and stuart caught wind and went with me , simon i think found the sample but i raved on making the drums slow and drugged out and then the track appeared the album was good we knew it and it was all done mainly at night in intense situations but i wish we had done more maybe one day we will
