My deluxe edition sounds pretty good, same volume control position as the rest of the records. No as much bass as I would like, otherwise pretty good.

My deluxe edition also sounds really poor. Considering it's such a quiet album there's excessive distortion on the vocals in places, as if the stylus were clogged with fluff (which it isn't!)

Has anyone experienced sound quality issues? My deluxe edition copy sounds pretty quiet (almost need to turn up the volume to the max to listen the record properly), while the bass is really weak.

I agree with you...Listening to it right now, I was wondering about the cartridge/needle (which are not the best either), but seems that I am not the only one noticing this.Though I think the previous album was not greatly mastered either.

@hcgFlynn - I have the non-delux US pressing and I noticed no sound quality issues (the quality is about the same as the band's first album). What you're describing almost sounds like the pre-amp on your stereo system is broken. If your other records sound fine, maybe you got a dud. Maybe try contacting the label or bring it back to the record store where you purchased it.
