like most egytpian lover tracks, the a-side is corny but as many others have pointed out, 'livin' on the nile' is the gem here. great, classic electro track that samples the drums from Section 25's famous synthpop track, 'looking from a hilltop' and imparts a very arabic synthline and some trademark heavy breathing.

Granijurus
i do not - and you are probably correct, it was just recreated. i think that was rather of lazy of me to claim it was sampled so i defer to you on this one.

Mikale
Do you have a source to support the claim that EL sampled Section 25, or is that a supposition? It's certainly a similar presentation, but it would seem more likely according to his own statements about how he was producing his music at the time that he constructed a beat based upon Hilltop.

Fearlesssinger
livin on the nile shame it was never release on 12 with rap that would have been a classic thanks

IMO, "Freak-A-Holic" is a mediocre at best electro track. What makes this 12" essential is the monsterous "Livin' On The Nile (Extended Club Re-mix)", this is a 9 minute electro workout. This track packs a punch and when played at loud volume on a good system, the bass smashes up the place! I used to use this track to test the sound system, to see what it is capable of. I put "Livin' On The Nile (Extended Club Re-mix)" easily in my all-time top ten electro tracks.

Riavay
Both versions of the title track are cheesy in that fun, play it for your friends way. But the real sleeper gem on this 12" is the Living on the Nile remix. IMO, Egyptian Lover really shines with instrumentals. This one is classic electro - minimal, catchy, easy to mix, and a sick synth line. And at over 9 minutes long, there's plenty of room to mix in and mix out.

GoodLike
An anthem for the nightbugs, the typical Rose clave drum action and hooks and the sexiest Dance Male Artist in the 80's, with the deepest vocals this side of the Nile baby. Put it this way, if you were born in the mid 80's, your momma probably had you while boppin to MR. E himself, respect is due for an artist who refused to go pop.. Although kind of giggled at today, in his time he sold more records than pratically anyone else of his generation/style, combining the style of Dr. Dre/World Wide Wreckin Krew, with the "Gag Wit Spoon" West Coast taste's that clearly trumped all other's...There is, and will never be another, like Mr Egyptian Lover..

Isha
The man with the nastiest hair this side of the Nile! Love the picture on the flipside of the release, yum!
