Thomas Neyens aka Kiani & His Legion really outperformed himself on this one in my opinion. Whereas his previous EP’s could be characterized as series of great individual, mostly straight-forward tracks, this self-described mini-album is exactly that. It easily transcends the definition of an EP and succeeds in telling a slowly unfolding story which takes the listener on a rather tumultuous trip through the artist’s emotional environment, from dark, slow moving synth rhythms to masterfully constructed basslines and at times ethereal, yet A.I.-esque vocals (don’t know why but I can’t help but think of the character Ava in Alex Garland’s Ex Machina).The only downside for me is its length, the whole story could have been even more stretched out in my opinion. I wouldn’t have minded to have the digital-only tracks L’illusiothèque and Eindelozer on the vinyl record as well (I secretly hope his next project will be a full-length album in the same style as this one). For now, I’d advise everyone to pick up this record as it is a limited run of 300 copies. And as always: breathe, close your eyes and fly :)PS: That being said, the pressing seems to be of lesser quality than previous EP’s from SOHASO. I pre-ordered two copies, one for me and one for a friend of mine. Straight out the sleeve, both had dust on 'm, dirt in the grooves, numerous hairline scratches, resulting in pops and clicks, especially in the beginning of A1 and all throughout B3. On top of that both copies have a slight warp. A pity given its content is of an outstanding quality... These are early pressings from Kompakt, thus I hope this problem doesn’t affect later copies. So if you’re reading this SOHASO, please do hit me up with a second copy for when this one’s played to death! ;)
