Looks Like Rain originally released in September 1969 as Mercury SR 61236. 'Frisco Mabel Joy originally released in October 1971 as Elektra EKS 74107. Heaven Help The Child originally released in January 1973 as Elektra EKS 75055.

Elastic Skunk

I had not listened to these albums in many years when I used to have them on vinyl, and to hear them again, so beautifully remastered on CD is a fresh pleasure. The original albums are flat-out masterpieces. Mickey Newbury was unlike most other country singers, he had the songwriting chops of Kris Kristofferson and an angelic voice like Gene Clark's. He's a total original and I defy country music hater to try these out. The arrangements are soaring, the orchestration, magestirial. This box set is in my top 100, and that's saying a lot.

I just bought this set today and what a discovery! I have only listened to the first cd so far, "Looks Like Rain" a beautiful atmospheric listening experience just like ambient electronica which I normally listen to and it just so happens that there was a summer rain shower with a little thunder occuring outside my window at the time!. Don't be put of by the "Country Music" tag this music goes way beyond that discription.
