Comments:
Kabei
I’m pretty disappointed in this pressing and after reviewing the comments, I see I’m not alone. There is no range and the album distorts at times. The beauty of this album is completely overshadowed with this pressing.

Ichalote
Okay. I was just reading all comments about this pressing and I have now some background to talk about it.My advice is: Change to a flat-sounding cartridge and check how better it sounds. Come on, is it still digital? Yes. But sounds much better.I used to play on my 1978 Shure M44G and exchanged to my Nagaoka MP-11. What a difference!Try it!

Rrd
it definitely suffers from a digital sourcing. it's loud; lacks a rich full dynamic and leaves the listener walking away with a veiled experience. is it fatiguing. no. would i have purchased knowing it was pressed from a digital source? no

Dibei
Just here to confirm for whoever missed the news that that this album was sourced digitally by the band before going to RCA. Yes, Painted Ruins is compressed to a noticeable level but I have heard way worse mixes from good bands (points to the very recent Trash Generator by Tera Melos). In an interview, Chris Taylor mentioned they recorded the entire record in their home-studios before bringing it to potential labels. While I can understand how this was a practical and cheaper method to make the album, I for one was a little let down when I learned this. Once I listened to the album, however, I realized the mix itself and mastering are very well done. Even for a digitally sourced record, the shimmering, calculated beauty of Grizzly Bear's sound can be heard especially if your setup can give extra life to the mix.

Taur
very nice pressing indeed! no crackle or pops or hiss or non fill issues. wish all modern vinyl would be pressed like this. album itself is very beautiful and - along with the new fleet foxes and war on drugs - my top 3 record of 2017 so far. only complain I have is the mastering: even on lp "painted ruins" sounds very loud and digital to me, missing details and dynamic range. I know most people these days listen to music via shitty equipment, but come on! a bit more audiophile would do no harm.

Dogrel
I didn't receive my vinyl yet but I'm really concerned since the digital source sounds VERY compressed to me. Any thoughts?

Androlhala
The Vinyl sounds amazing. Doesn't sounds overly compressed to me.

lolike
Fantastic pressing, but unfortunately the music was not recorded to tape like previous records and is very hot/loud. With this kind of loudness, details cannot be heard and is fatiguing to listen to all the way through. The Cd is bad too, but there is a 320 MP3 out there that is a tad less dynamic but proper.

Trash
Clean pressing, leaps and bounds beyond the norm these days.

Trash Obsession
Vinyl sounds pretty solid. For those who care: it also has been clean, free of defect and flat.

Mojar
Pre orders online come with 12x 12” Limited Edition Offset Lithograph

Cerana
Is the download MP3 only or are there options for WAV/lossless?

tamada
only mp3, sadly. wish more records would come with wav downloads, as they are aimed for the audiophile crowd anyhow.

Cyregaehus
how's pressing sound? Wonder if GB actually cared to do a good pressing on black vinyl after bashing colored vinyl.

Kazijora
GB bashed colored vinyl? I heard the gold shields press wasn't great, but I don't remember hearing anything about them being against colored pressings.

Elizabeth
my pressing sounds superb. flat, dynamic, silent, crackle- and pop free. wish all modern day vinyl would sound like this.

Nilador
Still trying to figure out what I think in terms of production and mastering. Fair to say it sounds as good as anything they've released on vinyl so far. In terms of pressing it's almost flawless. Just finished disc 1 and it was completely noise free!

I love Mercedes
Mine is arriving tomorrow, I will update once I listen to it. To be fair, the golden shields release got a lot of heat I just wish they hadn't turned away from special colored vinyl and tried a different manufacturer instead. Their past black presses sound really good, shields being the best sounding black first press imo so I have high expectations, even if it is their first release on RCA.
