miguelcervantesas reviewed by miguelcervantes Oct 28, 2012This new box set of the earliest Merzbow recordings is a joy to own and should be in every Merzfan's collection. The whole product has a solid, heavy feel to it and is meticulously put together. The silksreened wooden box is very well made with a lovely front design, hinges and clasp. The 10 vinyl albums are on heavyweight vinyl and housed in sleeves with the artwork appropriate to the re-mastered tracks. The booklet contains reproductions of Masami Akita's artwork of the period and comes on quality paper. The t-shirt and 7" that are part of the subscribers edition are two lovely extra's. Vinyl-on-Demand have done us all a great service by issuing this beautiful box set and letting Merzbow fans own, on high grade vinyl, music that is now three decades old and almost impossible to find in it's original form. Note - the first album in this set comprises previously unreleased material!Recently Soleilmoon released an 18 vinyl album edition of Merzbient. That issue is another necessary, if expensive, purchase for Merzfan's. Taken together, these two multi-album issues are a real tribute to Masami Akita's music making and his significance as an artist. Merzbow sounds great on vinyl! I hope that this is not the last time that Vinyl-on-Demand re-issue Merzbow material from those early days.Lowest Music & Arts 1980 - 1983 will find it's audience. For anyone else who might be unsure about buying this set, be assured it is tremendous value for money considering what is on offer here. Immerse yourself in this incredible world of sound......
