The fact that this latest albumis the third part of what he terms his "Ditch Trilogy" will give youa flavour of his primeval, earthy-black vision. His solo work is areverb-heavy, frequently distorted take on alienated folk music,like a gothic Bert Jansch. That isn't as hard work as it mightsound. There's a real beauty to much of this music, songs suchas Rot And Rust and Flowers offering a stark, haunting prettiness.The overall effect is rather like being stranded in a pleasinglyeternal autumn.4/5JAMES OLDHAM
