Proceding with my detective luck of having found a copy of this vinyl (after 8 years!) on the valuable rare French label "L'Illustration Musicale" now i would like take the pleasure chance to review it from a very special point of view: this music deserves a magical tenderness only little kids have and a drop of this is brought by these Nardini and Roger tracks. So here Nino Nardini takes the side A in a very preminent will of wanting recreate the "sounding like" sounds of spare animals, with synth reproduction and pre-recorded animals voices and he did it in a big funny way that we always recognize in his music. The tracks are fully fresh and enchanting and can be approximatively dated around 1976 and represents the musical antecedent steps before "Funny Moogy" Lp on crea sound dated 1983, but they retain the same similarity to Eric Swan "Music for Laughing" seven enflaming tracks on previous IMLP 15.All music is cristally clear thanks to the marvellous everlasting French MPO vinyl pressing quality and first track, "Doogie Boogie",evokes the barkings of big and small pet dogs including the growlery, all backed up with fast bass lines and gnarling "woof woof" synthesizer plus effects and progressive funny pop melody in the true boogie boogie vein of the Sixties. But in "Waltzing Birds" there's the magic touch of reproducing the entire singing birds in concerto without any real recordings of them, maybe better done than Roger itself did in "Zoo Electronique" 10" lp with track called "La voliere", but it is hard to differentiate because we know how Nardini and Roger worked most of all the time together on all the music coming from studio Ganaro, where we can say with high safeness this lp was entirely created and tracked down. Here the synth is implied fully at his master high pitched possibilty and shows mastercraftmanship'of revolving knobs manuality , showing that only one person who would have listened really close to birds singing could did such a master piece of trickery and fake to confuse your not french neighbours!Follwing track "The Frog Pond" is truly a stand-out and probably the best piece on tracklist, a groovey path of unheard mixture of sounds, some heavy and some tickling, some other watery: infact using a concrete layer of recorded water "swosshses" that costantly folds-into-itself like a true sea river, we hear how all details fits in together, each one creating some counterpoint for the other, revitalising our common sense of hearing too many times addicted to rational chorus and verse. This track is heavy sounding with a mixture of concrete and electronic effects. Then "Lazy Hippo","Grizzly Bear", are a bit away from being close to reality but are more musically experimental, even some kind of heavy big sounding, again mimicking animal imaginary values and completing it with sweet melodies. So here Nardini really took fun to build up music with such cascading water drops and frog noises, or suggesting the Hippo sense of heaviness with a fat large bass synth sound or resembling the Grizzly Bear oscillating funny walk using a new sense of musicality that is totally moderne and naive for these "old years", builiding up different sounds as a composition of many particular layers addition.Last two tracks "Donald Junior" and "Cha Cha Chat" follows the usual genius ambiental mood with instruments soundings plus noises blended with high pitched blowing synth Fx: the first with a totally childish electronic fast track and the latest with a latin flavoured that ends with a person, maybe the author, making many funny "mieaowws" cat voicings in outro!Again in these last two tracks we find the most important instruments trio used in many records from Nardini & Roger: marimba ,harpsichord and assortited electronic beats (beats sequencer or drum machine), each of them with an eventual degree of reverb/delay effect.Despite the side B is credited to some unprobable "very near to fakery" authors names (Cadogan? Raedcliffe?) and to Warner, since in the past IM records these pseudonims or Warner names are too easily written near some music that is clearly made by some other better known double pair of hands, i must recognize (on my semi personal spacialized Roger Nardini "Double Ear_Sense") that here is simply Roger Roger on music duty, and one track particularly, it is used as historical reference proof by me: is the track named "Western Choo Choo",it recalls that in 1976 Roger produced his "Chatta Mooga Choo Choo" Lp in UK on the small run unknown Jaycee label. So other track "Baby Band" clearly again proves my feel because its happiness and circus like gimmicks and fanfares sounds are clearly related to the previous "Chatta Mooga" record and seems to belong to the same recording session back in the 1976.So these three tracks ("Baby Band","Western Choo choo" and "General Peeps") seems to be what we actually call "Outtakes" of the forementioned 1976 UK Roger (and Nardini) album on Jaycee label. They are good tracks and the Nardini sense of joke (and steady balance enginering skills) are widely recognizable is such marvellous production with perfect addiction of layers upon layers of "plastic smiling sounds"."Baby Band" is again a full festive amd enjoyment track made of many comic tricks, with many gimmicks including circus gags sounds, percussive toms and clown whistling, triangles ticklings, and vaudeville like background scenes sound( es. like when a person is falling down a long sharp decading sound is emitted at once)."Western Choo choo" starts with one the most important (but obscure for its meaning!) symbol for children: the "Petit Train" that goes on "choof choof" with onomatopeuic electronic synth sound and spare reverbered harpsichord punctuations."General Peeps" is a martial march with drummers and fifers all altered with on going flat and thin synth shaping sounds: funny to listen to it while walking for a job meeting!Remainent tracks are big standouts: childish naivety and sleeping lullabies ambients marks these tracks as simple beauty like a glimpse of baby joy in an old sick all machiney and tecnological poor world."Cuckoo" is one of the best tracks voted 9/10 : with its crispy sounding and sleepy and soothing melody resembles me the Raymond Scott manufactury touch to let the infants joke or sleep, with final preminent near passerine cuckoos exactly singing and one ascending scale melody with synth punctillism on background that slides the cuckoo meaning to "being bliss stoned" !"The Piano Lesson" is piano and percussive harpsichord, all really classic in a Victorian easy way, very peaceful and with sleeping induction melody.Last two tracks ends the record like conducting us to sleep with hot ovomaltine before to bed."Baby School" has quiet sequencer drumming backings and a synth melody interfilled with calming bells and triangles like a xylophone."Lullaby" is perfectly soothing like a "bombonniere a musique" and is bad that these quiet sleeping tracks are so short!!(P.S. Historic note: I guess here "Cuckoo" an "Baby School" tracks were made around same time when "Music for Laughing" seven tracks were put into recording session, so it does add 7(IMLP 15 side B) plus 7(IMLP19 side A)plus these two 2 as 16 track total as an idea of what lenght of bunch of tracks Nardini and Roger recorded together approx in every session to program future publishing issues in L'illustration Musicale label vinyls! )Animals or Children will love and appreciate this special record that offers a music glimpse into the nursery school soavity world and suggests purity of spirit that only little babies have: all intended to play, to have fun and joke and learning, surely authors keeped such a feeling into themselves when playing music. Is indicated for early morning wake up and at breakfast in bed or instead as background music for children while they are playing with tools.Music feels like something that can enrich a particular "sweet house family" moment with sons and can be used too for reclaim attention from babies while teething time.On the strict music side the tracks here are quite a blown away listening when someone wants to cuts in the feeling of "always the same", dropping in a bunch of some of the Most Weird and Crazy Sugar Tasted music of entire world.Yes, you know, just right after mind blowing drone music party and in between 3 hours straight of Schoenberg and Avantgarde plus Merzbow and extreme noise. Radical "Peter Pan syndrome" Adults will like it too!
