Considering that Brass Bands in Britain can be traced back to the early 19th century the Mirrlees Works Band, formed in 1949 is a comparatively young organisation. ‘In its short history, however, the name “Mirrlees” has become known wherever people are interested in bands and it has already‘ won no less than 42 prizes in competitions. After some years in the lower section at Contests, the Band achieved Championship Section status . in 1965, a position it has. maintained to the ' present day. Competition work, however, is only part of this successful band-’s musical activities. It is rapidly becoming known as a fine concert band giving programmes to suit a wide variety of tastes with considerable emphasis on presentation to reinforce their high musical standards. This recording is aimed to produce music of an entertaining character rather than a display of instrumental pyrotechniques. "
