The Song Masters Quartet was a regional Gospel Quartet out of Milan, Tennessee, circa 1968-1980. Joel Kelsey was the owner, manager and bass singer; his wife Marcelyn Kelsey was their pianist and arranger. Marcelyn's son, Dale Shipley, later sang with Perfect Heart, and Freedom Quartet; Debbie (Spraggs) Talley got her group singing start here; and perhaps the most renowned vocalist to come through the group was tenor Johnny Cook, from just up the road in nearby Bradford, Tennessee, Johnny of course went on to be hired by the world famous Happy Goodman Family by Rusty Goodman to fill in for an ailing Vestal Goodman, fans loved him so that he became a permanent part of the Goodman group. The Song Master's roots grew out of association with The Weatherford Quartet and they specialized in unique tight five part harmony.
