Horrid. Playing up to the berlin crowd.

I take it you have no idea the impact this ep had when it came out. The effect was brutal.

Nobody should ever pay attention to anything this user writes as a result of this comment.

get a grip, understand your history...and I'm filling the rest..

I take it you weren't around in '92 to hear this batter clubs everywhere when it was released? Suspect you'd have a different opinion if you had. UR play up to no-one. Never have, never will.

Crazy
The Punisher as a track by itself can set off a riot on the dance floor, but it's possible to make The Punisher destroy a nightclub even more... Underground Resistance in their live DJ performances used to take The Punisher and play it under "Burn Hollywood Burn" by Public Enemy. Burn Hollywood Burns needs to be pitched up (nearly 10%), unless you pitch The Punisher down, to match tempos. At the 33rd bar of The Punisher (or 1:00 minute into the track) they would drop Burn Hollywood Burn and keep the tracks in sync, and it would cause all sorts of chaos. If you're looking for a little creativity and chaos in your live sets this mash-up works wonders anywhere.

Dogrel
Is that the break track they would cut it with? there's a rec from a hardcore rave in like 92 in NY w/ UR that mixes it with a break that sets shit OFF

To my mind, one of the best "techno" tracks ever cut. Hard, merciless, demanding - none of the fluff or propensity to inspire an intake of pharmaceuticals. Just the music. While Jeff Mills went on to bigger, and some people may infer better, things with his solo work and the Axis and Purpose Maker imprints, this record holds true to an aesthetic important to his creative side almost two decades ago. If you've been to Detroit, you get a better gist of just where this music was coming from.

This has to be one of my alltime favourite techno tracks. The extraordinay power this track showcases is unmatched in my opinion. I love the hardkicking drums, claps and hi hats, just amazing. Mills is one of the most influential names in the history of techno. His early works like this one are simply legendary and to this day they are great compositions and will work on the dancefloor.

Aah so now I understand... I consider myself lucky to just once have visited the old "2030" building, the previous location of Submerge/UR on Grand River Avenue in Detroit before the moved to Grand Boulevard... That's where Mike kept his car also... He even fired it up for us :) And when I listen to "The Punisher" now, it all makes sense! He told us that his car was the fastest in Detroit, and for a looong time the money he earned racing "the Punisher" kept Submerge going. In the early years, that is.

This is in my mind the best Jeff Milss record. It has a loud synth and great classic UR 909 techno drums with 16th note hihats. This is a loud record. When UR played the Limelight in NYC for the 1st time they came on stage all dressed in black with black facemasks and asked the crowd if anyone was from Detroit. When no one cheered they yelled out "This is your punishment!" and blasted this song. The place exploded. 5 stars!

I didn't notice that there is someone scratching on this record for years. It is pretty far in the background but at one break it is very upfront and obvious. It seems to be looped. I had always thought that it was a synth sound before it hit me that it was a scratch. A pretty sweet one at that.

Memuro
Black nad white printed label with distribution from sonar in the UK. Although pressed in Detroit.

The Punisher is also the name of Mike Banks drag racing car - wins loads of prizes in Detroit competitions - it's a big gas monster the same colour as the record label.
