Daniel Bennett is a Dunedin, New Zealand based multi-instrumentalist who learnt piano for 4 years, then gave it up. He taught himself guitar and began picking up any instrument he could get his hands on to bend to his will. He owns 12 guitars, and 24 other instruments including piano, organ, banjo, mandolin, xylophone and autoharp. He's experimented with various mixes of instruments and sounds, frequently using field recordings and found sounds to add feeling to his music. Never monotonous, his music tells stories with changes - some subtle, some hard-hitting - to create an enthralling and attention keeping soundscape that is quite hard to put a genre to. He was in a few bands at high school and entered the Rockquest in 2005 as duet “Gimmick” with Matt Carradus. He self released a couple of poorly recorded albums but finally got his recording quality together for "Apple" (2006) of which only 1000 copies were made.People interested in Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Sigur Rós and The Mars Volta should hear “Apple”. It is fresh and creative modern instrumental music, with many instruments' melodies intertwining to make a genre that defies radio pop.
