I was a founding member of the band Still September. J. Adams is my brother, aka Jeff Horgan. Ed Sauer (aka Edward Ashley...RIP Ed) and Paul Gerdts (aka Paul Douglas), Jeff, Ed, Paul and I formed this band in the mid 80's having come from a few other bands gigging around So Cal, Box Metropolis and Push123. I left the band shortly after this single, though both songs got a little air play on KROQ in LA. These guys were incredible friends and it was amazing to jam with them. I'm writing this mainly to dedicate to Ed, who passed away recently from cancer. He was my friend since high school and he was an amazing guitarist. I have a few copies of this single on vinyl I'll try to post better front and rear jacket photos. Cheers to all. - Gary (aka Cary) Hopkins.

Thinking of my father tonight, and I can't believe I found anything on this single! I have a copy of this in a box in the attic with my other 12" of the era. You and your brother gave it to me, you and Jeff were my father's roommates in Corona Del Mar. I remember all the music gear, the big picture of you playing bass on the wall of the pad, and how awesome I thought it must be to be in a band. I turned 18 shortly thereafter and joined the Air Force and never saw you guys again, but I'll never forget thinking at the time that if I had been blessed with any musical talent that I wanted to be just like you and Jeff and be in a band. Good times. I hope all is well with you and your brother, and I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. Take Care, -Rob Millwee

Hey Gary, thanks a million for the write up on the band. It's so frustrating not having any clues on the band members who created such awesome tunes. I created this page by info from my copy. Better scan of the jacket photos would be so cool. Cheers!

Awesome 12" single from an American-based foursome with hardly a grain of information. There is no info on where the band is from, either. Both songs have many layers of synths at one time. The A-side "Midnight Arena" is a slightly uptempo, dark tune with an oscillating voice-over ("As you lie fast asleep...") in the middle of the song. The B-side "Been This Way For So Long" is more midtempo and melodic, with a slower version of the chorus riff in the beginning. Highly recommended.
