I still remember the "Sounds Of Ordinary Madness" gig at the Great Britain Hotel, Richmond. was one of the best lineups I've ever seen on the same bill: Necrotomy, Damaged, Christbait, Magnacite (completely made up of Beanflipper & Damaged members), Subversion.... just a killer arvo/evening of Melbourne grind. it was also one of the last shows Necrotomy ever played. pity... they were THE pioneers of Aussie grindcore.

One of my favorite compilations, even after all these years. This is the Australian version of Earache's Grindcrusher compilation or the first Hardcore Holocaust compilation of Peel Sessions. This is such a potent collection of grind, that I spent years contacting Australian musicians and labels in the hopes of obtaining more of these bands' recordings. And that was before the spread of the internet. Most of these bands sound like a crusty version of the first Napalm Death LP. A few of the bands have a slight Godflesh influence, if only in the repetition of their guitar phrases and their plodding, heavy rhythms. The highlight for me is the Celtic Frost cover done in a style of almost pure grind - all the metal has been stripped away leaving only the framework of speed and necessity.
