Notes

Calabash comprised of Smiler Makama (marimba, smilerphone, guitar, bass, flute, sax, voices, assorted percussion) and Kyks Shongwe (African drums, mbiru and harmony vocals), who haled from Swaziland. The album was recorded in the Shifty Studios in Johannesburg. Lloyd Ross was the engineer, and played additional guitar, bass and synthesizer. Ross and Ian Osrin mixed all tracks, except for Amabutho, which was mixed by Ross alone. The album was produced by Ian Osrin, who also wrote the sleeve notes on the back of the album. In this text he described the difficulties they had recording this album, which was supposed to be a blend of Africa and the West. The album was also released on cassette (L4 AKA 103(EV)).
