early 90s hiphop remains untouched. when you've spun low end theory a few times during the early and more thoughtful parts of the evening high and wanted to finally jump around and bounce off the walls while laughing your ass off, this is the record you followed it with. or de la, or black sheep, or naughty by nature, or i could go on and on. there are no parallels in 2018 for groove-centric hiphop -- it's all garbage now. ya mama, soulflower, oh shit, passin me by, these are deep effin grooves -- all the same records that DJ shadow was absorbing for his first effort just fours years away. below me, lawrencestevens2001 needs to smoke more and crank this again front to back.

(Quick Review #45)Listen: #2This is just one of those albums, where I would dig almost every track here on its own, since everything here is nice and quality but when all put together in an album it just all blends in and becomes overbearing. It feels too long as an album, since a lot of the same lyrical and production styles are hit. Oh Shit is an amazing start to the album, but then after that everything just goes into a mold where it all blends in unfortuantly. As a 30 minute EP this would have been nice, but as an hour long album its just too much of the same for me to really enjoy it. I understand that this is also because of the time it was released, but that to me doesn't change the fact that I just couldn't dig it because of it. I'm not going to give the album a pass because it came out before, I'm reviewing it with modern standards. I know this review sounds harsh, and I really do like the songs, it's just as a full album it doesn't work all that well in my opinion. Don't Kill me it's just my opinion.Decent to Strong 6

So another reissue is coming out in January of this, however it will be a Respect the Classics release, my record store owner says it will be priced around $35! I don't get it, I thought the whole point of reissues was to get an in demand classic album at a reasonable price? I guess an expensive reissue is better than no reissue but it is an annoying they are price gouging fans on all these Respect the Classics reissues. Most times it's not even worth it, better off hunting for a decent copy of the OG pressing.
