among the most stark and intimate of all outsider offerings, the bold solitude of these works resonates like a pane of glass to a passing auto, a voicing of spatial vibrations whose potent subtlety reaches the mystical; two very different things have been voiced as one, in an occluded place of sounds so profoundly ignored.I am perpetually delighted and fascinated with the expansive dichotomy of these earliest self-productions. even being fluent in their strange nuanced gentleness I can simultaneously hear them as a mainstream music listener would; unreleasably rough portrayals of high smoothness.Jandek's band THE UNITS featured on the third intallment ("Chair Beside A Window") of this excellent much-deserved triptych-edition, boasts the distinction of being both credibly bad and incredibly inspired, like the volumetric contradictions of an Escher. Some of the very best music on earth is made by listless dabblers who barely care what they're doing but who retain a spiritual-grade focus on WHY. what's the difference between bad musicians making a sound mess and genius outsider fine-art music? The attitude of the players is what. The irony is that the poverty of resources hides the most valuable of all musical ingredients: NEED. The deep Need to express oneself in song is what's missing from all the opulent contractually-obligated NOTHINGS we're perpetually forcefed in public by the Sabbatean Mafia's Spiritual Sewer Spouts.Jandek knows he NEEDS to play and sing and his song should be ours. Upon listening to him we realize that the difference between Jandek and the few other very-outside independents deserving of exposure and venue (emblematically Daniel Johnston), the diff between these pedigree mutts and the rest is the bracing quality of their COURAGE and Confidence in us, as in 'to Confide'.Being candid to the point of emotional pain, not just in content but in delivery.Because the most PERSONAL work requires the greatest Courage, in the guts and pain needed to supply the quietest demand.Jandek's guitar is not in tune. Folks, Jandek's guitar is not even in tune with ITSELF. This music is quintessentially microtonal, whether intentional or not is moot. Often He barely even TOUCHES his guitar, his vocal reduced to a phrasing of sighs in passages so pianississimo the ambient roomtone is on equal footing. THERE IS ALMOST NOTHING TO GET from these astonishingly Shy musical proceedings, yet, perhaps miraculously, the gratification received is inversely proportional to the amplitude provided. because he offers HIMSELF unconditionally.Devotional music at its best performs a mindmeld on the percipient, it is operationally empathic. This is the most exalted gift music can give, the unification of mind, the wealth of spirit; Denial of DNA commands, of gender, of the prurient. Welcome soul as you become we; our angel wings whisper metal strings. the humblest zephyr so unassuming assumes the essence of light, until there is no mind, only heart.

Christian is my best friend's dad's name but he likes to be called Sam instead. There is nothing wrong with that.

Great review or prose rather or both. I'm still yet to get too far into his work but I will try again soon. I look forward to keeping your words in mind when I do. Thanks.
