For me, this is one of the greatest letdowns ever.The songwriting is good: great lyrics, nice instrumental structuring with sludgy mathness that isn't predictable but doesn't sound unfitting at any time too.This alone would make the album somewhere in between four and five points (out of five) together with the nice album cover and the beautiful white vinyl. The first problem is that if you listened to their former EP, you would be a bit disappointed, simply because it sounded way more varied. On this EP the vocal styles are changed constantly. But on this record they are pretty much everytime in the same tone, just a few passages spoken and that's it. Also the guitars are even more varying on the EP. With this in mind, I would want to lower my rating to four stars at maximum.But the real problem is the mastering and mixing. Die Tonmeisterei Oldenburg mixes and masters bands like Alpinist and they normally do a great job. But this record just sounds like bass. From the beginning to the end without any pause. You can't hear clear bass lines, the guitars are often unhearable under the constant bass noises and the drums are not equally mixed either. You end up with an overload of bass noises, the sound of the snare, some shattering noises of something that might be cymbals and the constant roaring of the singer who does not vary the tone. If you would skip through the album, it would take you some time to even realise what song this could be.Again the worst part might be that they had done everything right on their EP.So all in all: If you want to buy something by Endnote: go for their EP but not this release.
