This was the first record that I actually bought, back in 1959--I was not quite 3, and my parents gave me the money to pay for it at the counter of a department store in town. I still value my (fairly beat-up) copy highly (and have bought copies in better shape, holding on to the original for sentimental value only).I very highly recommend this album as a good starting place to learn a little bit about Pat Boone's music of the 1950s--it has everything from pseudo-rockabilly to an Everly Brothers tune to quasi-Dixieland to the beautifully arranged and conducted tunes (soon to be known as MOR) that formed a good part of Pat's career--including what I think may be his best track (in terms of songwriting, arrangement, and vocal performance combined), "If Dreams Came True." And it is very short on what Pat is most denigrated for--his covers of current hits. Only one R&B remake is on this album--"It's Too Soon to Know"--a song which had been a hit TEN YEARS BEFORE Pat recorded it and Dot released it. (There's also an Eddy Arnold hit, "That's How Much I Love You," on this album--showing that neither Pat nor Dot Records's Randy Wood discriminated in song choices for cover versions).By the way, this LP was his second album collection of songs that had previously been hit singles, and was reissued the following year (1960) with the title "Pat's Great Hits, Vol. 2"--possibly a better title both to entice buyers and to reduce confusion with retailers, since Pat's first EP (in 1955) had also been titled "Pat Boone Sings."
