The 'schizo mix' is a fairly standard, pointless extended mix. It teases in nicely with stripped down percussion before building into the full track, then goes into an extended instrumental section...you can hear the band playing along, trying to sound like sequencers, but just slightly out-of-sync with the main rhythm track. then a fairly tedious extended coda.the b-side 'altered' version of Any Second Now is another matter entirely. Dispensing with Martin Gore's vocals, this average album track is revealed as a beautifully programmed, highly detailed and evolving slice of intrumental electronica that would put most modern-day 'cold wave' artists to shame. when the drums finally come in near the end the effect is quite startling as the carefully evolving synth sequences are given a sudden dynamic lift. A great track, and I suspect a great example of one of Vince Clarke's earliest adventures in deep anaologue exploration.
