This is my favorite Esther Phillips album because I was there with her in NYC througout its conception. My favorite song is Ive Never Been a Woman Before! I loved that song the minute I heard it and I still love it! When she was in the hosptal, in 1984, she asked me to read her something--I recited the words to that song! Her reply, "You never forget anything, do you!" Every night, we listened to the recordings in the hotel--so some days I was listening to Esther Phillips 24 hours a day--waking to her and sleeping to her! I could not have been happier!
