I'm not sure what was going on with this release, but Carl sure dropped a stinker here. Since I bought this for $30 back during an era where I would buy the latest Carl Cox mix without even listening to it, this was a particularly sore purchase for me. I had a bad feeling when the first track was the very mediocre commercial remake of 'Last Night a DJ Saved My Life' by Sylk 130, but I figured the mix had nowhere to go but up from there. I was wrong. The very first transition between Sylk 130 and Josh Wink's "Sixth Sense" is not only way too rough (it takes a very loud sound system to be forgiving to a mix like this) but the tracks do not even go together. From the beginning to the end, this entire disc is little more than lowest-common denominator commercial club house. Terrible? No, but it's definitely leaning in that direction. It's about as watered-down and commercial sounding as one could get before the lowest reaches of commercial club trance are reached. (Does anyone really need to hear "Planet Rock" again?) Some of these mixes might sound impressive if I'd pulled them off after a few beers at home, but far too many of them have the aura of someone who's just learned how to beat match getting carried away with the cross fader.
