2 legendary Hardcore Producers DJ Dano and The Prophet formed this project, which also marked the start of the Amsterdam based Mokum Records label and is therefore not less legendary. It must be mentioned here that the tracks on this record were produced & mixed not together by both, Side A with The Point was done entirely by Dov Elkabas (The Prophet) while the whole Side B (Cosmic Trash + De Skippybal) was produced by Daniël Leeflang (DJ Dano). The Point - Quite a prime example of the oldschool hardcore sound with TR909 drum samples, a hiphop sample from the song "The Chief" by Tony Scott and disturbing synth lines. Tends to get little repetitive after a while as it is close to 9 minutes long.Cosmic Trash - Without a doubt the hardest track on this release, especially the Bassdrum can knock you out. This time without the typical hiphop vocal sample but with a rather short female voice sample that says "very cosmic" (might be from a movie), included are increase and decrease of bpm. Perfect choice of track length and my personal favorite on this release.De Skippybal - Together with Poing from Rotterdam Termination Source kind of a predecessor of a term that was later called "Happy Hardcore", yet not as happy as the later output and still with a really dark note. Skippybal is a hop ball for kids (in dutch also known as Kangoeroebal).

This first (and one of the best) Mokum release is actually far from the "happy hardcore" style."De Skippybal" is just a gimmick, but no happy hardcore! The track "Cosmic Trash" is actually one of the hardest and brutal gabber tracks of it's time... Even harder as most of the Rotterdam tracks that year, just listen to the kickdrum!Time to listen to this wonderful vinyl once again maybe?

Fenrikree
The answer from Amsterdam on the Rotterdam music style called gabber or hardcore. Way more happy then the Rotterdam releases. Nowadays this kind of music will be described as happy hardcore because some of the latest releases in this scene (for example third movement) are getting more and more experimental and industrial influenced.

In former gabba times this track has kicked many asses, but from todays point of view it´s very simple and boring. A whack hiphop sample from Tony Scott´s pop rap album "The Chief" is triggered on the bassdrum. Contemporary drum´n´bass producers are working with hiphop samples too, but in a more complex and funky way. Triggering a sample from the bass drum is like playing with lego cubes and it is celebrated until today by silly gabbaheadz on the "Thunderdome" samplers that are getting more and more shitty...
