Supraphon Release Information“O koních a lidech” (Of Horses and People) was the original title of the album, Neckář’s first featuring new tracks after some 17 years. The title may have changed, yet the wonderful mission has remained. The singer turned to his most powerful weapon - ballads dealing with his favourite themes: horses, us and the seemingly perishing world of ideals. Yet not all the songs are about racing and not all the tempos are slow. The pleasantly self-depreciating Jsem tady já, the lightly dancey Tak pojď domů or the rock’n’roll Bezstarostná jízda form a friendly counterpart to the seminal cuts, represented by the Pink Floyd-like Včerejší, the title track Oči koní, the stock-taking Píseň pro jockeye, Můj Taxis, and the ode to horses itself, Óda na koně. The two cover versions, of Tučný’s Modrá z džín and Seno a stáj, are delightfully refreshing, while Zloději koní is a lightened conclusion before the bonus, the legendary piece Perla in the 1983 version.Václav Neckář may not become an idol of teenagers or a stylistic experimenter – as a wisely ageing pop musician, he has staked his bets on his unceasing artistic fortes, particularly the trustworthy narration of colourful stories. The omnipotent producer, lyricist and musician Zdeněk Rytíř, Václav’s brother Jan in the role of songwriter and head of the stalwart Bacily backing band, as well as the songwriters Ota Petřina, Pavel Krejča, Petr Spálený and Miloš Svoboda, and the lyricists Jan Schneider, Josef Fousek and Pavel Žiška, are all of Václav Neckář’s blood group. His son, Václav Jr., at the mixing desk is a worthy bearer of the family flame. This album is not just a comeback, it is an openly nostalgic stroll through tones, words, sounds and pictures from bygone years. It is for all those with a weakness for horses, people and – in particular – Václav Neckář...
