TOTALLY UNDERRATED GREENWICH VILLAGE 60'S FOLKER...THIS IS THE 1966 DEBUT ALBUM BY DON CRAWFORD. AN EXCELLENT FOLK ROCK WITH THE SOUND THAT IS JUST STARTING TO BRIDGE THE COFFEE HOUSE POST BEAT SOUND TO THE FOLK PSYCH SOUND STILL TO COME WHO IN EVIDENCE HERE...IT HAS THAT RAW '65-'66 VIBE/STYLE/FEEL (LIKE YOU FIND ON MOST "ELEKTRA" ALBUMS FROM THAT ERA)...COOL, GREAT AND SCARCE ALBUM THAT PRE-DATED ALL THE TRIPPED-OUT WEIRDNESS TO COME...

Here’s a great album by Don Crawford that’s interesting for the fact he is backed by members of the Wrecking Crew which includes Tommy Tedesco, Ray Pohlman, and Dennis Budimer on guitars, Jimmy Bond on bass, Hal Blaine on drums, and featuring a horn section that includes Jay Migliori, Bill Green, Virgil Evans, Tom Scott, and Louis Blackburn.Crawford started his musical career playing in bands in the San Francisco area, and from 1959-63, played the club circuit throughout the U. S. and Canada. In 1963 he “retired” from the business to attend Berkeley University to study journalism. However in 1964, he nearly lost his life in an auto accident.Following a long period of convalescence, he settled in Vancouver Canada and returned to the music business to record this album in early 1966. The album is similar at times to what Dylan accomplished on “Highway 61”, mixing blues with rock, without the Dylan sophistication of course. There’s a great version of Doc Pomus’ “Lonely Avenue” that opens the album, and a just as great version of “You’re Gonna Miss Me” that’s better known as “I Know You Rider”, but those are only two examples from an album that’s sure to please from start to finish.
