Stoneshaper

I love this album! It’s so dark and strange but also beautiful. The word that comes to mind first is enchanting. It is evocative of more mysterious, dangerous and magic times... of dark English forests, pagan rituals, murder, madness. I play it often. I own the Dawn Records Original pressing and the Rise Above Relics Reissue.

Very dark album of mutant folk music which was unavailable for many years but is now available to all to hear - on CD at least. Sanctuary have released Song To Comus - The Complete Collection on a double cd set. The second album which followed First Utterance three years later isn't such a good listen but the first album remains very potent with its distressing songs of rape, incest, necrophilia and murder. The vocal style of Roger Wootton won't be for everybody as the word 'theatrical' doesn't really do him justice, his style is eye-poppingly surreal and weird. If you're a true sonic adventurer and don't mind the dread tags 'progressive' or 'acid-folk' then have a go with Comus.
