A strange little album, full of possibly-sampled possibly-live music. Discerning ears will hear samples of noted jazz standards - loops of rhythm and noise - spun into tight tracks; definitely not experimental music but not lounge or pop either, every track sounds well-worked with complete progressions and no wasted time. The warped stereo channeling on "Blues for Pablo Money" is right on for headphone listening and pretty much makes it clear that this album is best suited for listening when alone. "Moth to the Flame" covers a host of musical genres - striking at hard bop, classical, western blues - and sounds almost like what Tortoise tried to accomplish in the early 2000's but got too cute with. And just when you think you've figured out what is being done, the bongos drop in on "A Time to Listen"! Highly recommended.

Almost 7 years later (~17 years since release!)and I am still listening to and loving this mini-album. PACKED with ideas that are as well balanced as they are well executed; nearly perfect. A desert island disc, for me.
