This was the first release of this album, with wrap around cover, silkscreened [both the jacket and the disc] and numbered with an edition of 145 discs. It also comes with a four fold silkscreened insert on very thin paper containing copies of the handwritten lyrics for all the tracks, along with other information regarding the album. This was given to me by by the man himself, and is a treasured part of my music collection.Here, The Vacant Lots on their self titled release will step out and surprise you, and perhaps knock you back a bit ... as they present their musical roots and inspirations. The release is heavily influenced with dripping blues that’s been washed over with TVL’s version of neo-psychedelic atmospheres, creating a driving rhythm that locks you into the groove and just refuses to let you go. Other songs harken back to late 70’s and early 80’s post-punk, though with a more lush and layered presentation. There are several tracks such as “Put Your Head On The Floor” that flash forward to what The Vacant Lots will become known for ... plus it’s great to hear these original tracks and stand them next to the more fully developed lustrous numbers they’ll become as TVL’s experiment and expand these bits of wanderlust.Review by Jenell Kesler
