Very happy to introduce Tazmania's latest underground export, Polanyi, the solo project of Hobart-based musician Steven Wright (also an active member of Manchester Mourning and Ceai). Wright’s Polanyi project aims to "examine the nature of ideas, both of the musical and non-musical variety". With Ongoing Resonance, a privately-pressed vinyl LP, those "ideas" manifest themselves in a four-movement composition centered on frequency clash, texture, and manipulated feedback. The pieces were recorded live in a church hall in Hobart, Tasmania, in June 2012. The only conventional instrument used was a keyboard: the rest is born from a microphone, TV, a food processor, and eight amplifiers. The result is four lengthy pieces of sublime noise that's gonna take you where you want to be: feedback, fuzzy distortion, and hiss hook-you straight-up with a fresh, compelling zone of ecstatic confusion. It's limited to a single run of 100 copies and well worth Australia’s postal premium. Dispense with dithering, muster your faith.
