'Sometimes I wish I was born in Paris' sings Jeremy Gluck on the opening track to this collection, with a warm acoustic backing that suddenly explodes with both vocalist and band engaged in a race to see who can get to the end of the song first. Its a draw.Chronologically and coincidently this album begins in Paris with Jeremy engaged in 'knocking up masters' for possible release through French record labels, before moving to the time between the two Buffalo Bill albums. Obviously with the period and differing musicians there are a variety of styles and sounds on display. My Angel recalls Neil Youngs Tired Eyes, Threw This Away is Dylanesque, Break Me has the fragile beauty of Reed/Cales Songs For Drella (Drifter also has a Cale era Velvets feel) and Dream Baby Dream has a Kraftwerk vibe. With Nikki Suddens involvement No Sound could come straight off a Swell Maps album.The sleevenotes tell the story behind the recordings and there are full musician credits. From 1982 with Jeremys dreams of forming a punk band 'vanquished' to finding new partners and artistically satisfying collaborations.On the cover is a picture of Jeremy, Narcissus like, starring at his reflection in a lake. As with this album it is not an image of contentment (I never fell in love but I fell into me - White River), but of daydreaming and pondering on the possibilities to come. The answer would reveal itself on the opening track of Memory Deluxe I Knew Buffalo Bill 2 : I am the future of my own past.
