Sūtra's only album, SUICIDE, starts with the mysterious string pulls of "Réfléchir La Lumière," aided and abetted by Patrick Vidal's sparse vocals, before the breaks thud in halfway through. This is a hard album to classify stylistically, if for no other reason than Sūtra seem content to go about their own sound. "Touch the Water," for instance, brings things down, as Vidal goes into a falsetto and the beats skitter along, while "Tricky Situation" goes into some disco funk. "V.T.L." continues the 4/4, though it gets more industrial and gritty (the piano and grinding electric guitar on "Suicide Sūtra" continue this feel). And, as if to show that they can do the exact opposite, "Landing (Parts 1 & 2)" slips in some jazz house. "La Brûlure Du Bruit" returns to the slow darkness, but, for me, the standout is the angular "Dog Food," a bilingual slice of weird disco funk. This is a sutra you can repeat over and over.
