"The Sound of Goodbye" was a nice track that built on a chunky groove, something not common with the type of epic trance coming out of the Netherlands region at the time. It's vocal is something that been debated ever since the track been released. Most conclusion is that the lyrics in the verses are decent but the chorus is awful. It's what I call "e-tard poetry", a type of lyric that tries so hard to be poetic and pretentious but falls flat on it's feet by it's unintentional comedic nature. Anyhow, luckily there was a dub for the main mix which is the strongest version on this package. He also adds a Rising Star mix which represented the type of epic trance that armin was playing at time and serves as a big main room mix. The other mixes on this vary from good to decent. Above & Beyond does a very good version in their 2001 Anjunabeats type style, a spot on driving epic trancer. Dajiro does a techy type trancer that focuses on the groove and rearranges & cuts up the vocal & the main lead, a very good tool and great for build ups. Blank & Jones does a decent mix but spoils it with a terrible lead. The UK release on Nebula also added mixes by Pablo Gargano & Robbie Rivera. Gargano kept the Armin's original tribal feel concept but went in a more progressive direction. Rivera took the tempo down a smidge and did a darker house mix. Both excellent versions.
