There are several pleasures to be had for Numanoids on this vinyl compilation. Taking those oh-so-familiar songs from their albums and placing them in a different context provides a fresh perspective. The track sequencing doesn't always gel - for me We Take Mystery (To Bed) following Bombers is jarring, yet Warriors after Films sounds perfectly seamless.Hearing the tracks on vinyl can bring different elements to the fore and remind you of why you fell in love with them in the first place. The lively bass that underpins Metal and Films. The acoustic-sounding guitar foil in the chorus of Warriors. The way the chorus vocals kick in before the verses have finished on both that track and Love Needs No Disguise, making them tricky to sing along to. The rapid-fire single-finger keyboard stabs behind Me! I Disconnect From You. The soaring synth in White Boys And Heroes backing the line "See boys say I'm mayhem", beginning with one mellow vocal track and ending with another more impassioned, repeated four times then gone. Being reminded We Are So Fragile was a B-side! I'm sure every fan has their own moments.Stormtrooper In Drag is a perfect, moody way to end. I hadn't even noticed there was a melody to those seething vocals until I heard the brilliant St Etienne version. It's astonishing that Numan had created or collaborated on this body of work barely before the age of 25.
