JOHANNES CERNOTA - AIR SCULPTURE (Erdenklang 20592) CD 60mNow, this is probably the biggest surprise of all! Ignore the fact that this is in the "Silent Beauty" series, this is in another world altogether - a superb piece of ambient music, just one evolving changing almost directionless 60 minute opus. Although melodic, there are no actual tunes here, no standard musical structure, the music kind of hangs there, tones shift and notes appear like drops of misty dew, punctuated by bass stabs, flute sounds, drifting organ and other electronic tones. I suppose I could say that nothing really happens here, yet it's far more involved than Eno's THURSDAY AFTERNOON or Steve Roach's QUIET MUSIC, and what it does it does most fascinatingly!from my Erdenklang feature in Audion magazine #23 (Nov.1992)
